the Manchester Salon

The Manchester discussion group 'Manchester Salon' first met in 2007 and aims to make sure there is a forum for lively and intellectual debate in the north west. We meet every 4 to 6 weeks to discuss a book or topic of interest.

If you live around Manchester and want to know about our discussions please ask to be added to our Email list, click on the Discussions link, or check back here from time to time.

Meetings are informal and fun with audience participation actively encouraged but not required. If you would like to attend the Manchester Salon, please drop us an email.

We make a small charge at meetings to cover the cost of room hire and any speaker expenses.

Some of our recent discussions have been:

  • book discussions on Saturday by Ian McEwan (led by Ray Tallis), The Road by Cormac McCarthy (led by Stephen Bowler) and The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid (led by Brendan O'Neill)
